How to Brew Each Coffee Grind: Coarse, Standard, Espresso and Whole Bean

· Gigi's Coffee

Gigi, our long-haired dachshund mascot

Every Gigi's coffee comes in four options: Whole Bean, Coarse, Standard and Espresso. Here's exactly how to brew each one at home.

Coarse — French press and cold brew

French press: 4 tablespoons per 16 oz of water just off the boil, steep 4 minutes, press slowly and pour.

Cold brew: stir 1 cup of coarse coffee into 4 cups of cold water, refrigerate 12–18 hours, then strain. Dilute the concentrate with water or milk to taste.

Standard — drip and pour-over

Drip coffee maker: about 2 tablespoons per 6 oz of water. Use fresh, cold water and a clean machine for the best taste.

Pour-over: rinse the paper filter, add coffee, pour a little water to bloom for 30 seconds, then pour slowly in circles. Aim for a total brew time of about 3 minutes.

Espresso — espresso machines and moka pots

Espresso machine: about 18 grams of coffee for a double shot, tamped evenly, pulling around 2 oz in 25–30 seconds.

Moka pot: fill the base with hot water to the valve, fill the basket with coffee without tamping, and heat on medium until it gurgles. Remove from heat right away.

Whole bean — grind fresh

Grind just before brewing and match the grind to your brewer, using the steps above. Store beans in an airtight container away from light and heat — not in the fridge.
